Our Commitment to Privacy

Our Privacy Policy (“Policy”) was developed as an extension of our commitment to combine the highest-quality products and services with the highest level of integrity in dealing with our clients and partners. The Policy is designed to explain how we collect, use, and safeguard the personal information that is provided to us and allows us assist the customer in making informed decisions when using our site, products, and services as we protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. We reserve the right to change this Policy and will provide notification of the change at least thirty (30) business days prior to the change taking effect.

Personal Information You Choose to Provide

The Convention and Visitors Bureau (“CVB”) understands the threat that identity theft poses. However, as an agency of a local government, the City of Virginia Beach, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. As such, certain records received by CVB are subject to statutory and regulatory requirements to facilitate citizen access to records, as well as discovery requests, subpoenas, and requests for production by regulatory agencies. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we will safeguard and keep confidential personal information provided to us. CVB does not engage in the practice of selling personal information.


We request information from the user on our order form; here a user must provide contact information (such as name and shipping address). This information is used to fill a customer’s orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with the user.


A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie simply terminates. For instance, by setting a cookie on our site, the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our site.

Log Files

We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement, and gather broaden demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Our website may contain links to other websites. Often links to other websites are provided solely as pointers to information on topics that may be useful to the users of our website. CVB is not responsible for the privacy practices employed by websites linked to or from our website, nor the information or content contained therein. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by CVB’s website.
From time to time you may notice links from outside companies advertised on our website. We take measures to select product or service providers that are responsible and afford privacy protections to their customers. However, we cannot make any representations about the practices and policies of these companies.

In addition to providing the foregoing information to our partners, if you choose to correspond further with us through e-mail, we may retain the content of your e-mail messages together with your e-mail address and our responses. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we will provide the same protections for these electronic communications that we employ in the maintenance of information received by mail and telephone.

Credit Card Transactions

CVB meets all Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data security requirements. All members, merchants, vendors, and service providers that store, process or transmit cardholder data while doing business with the CVB are held to these requirements. Additionally, to the extent permitted by applicable law, these security requirements apply to all “system components” which is defined as any network component, server, or application included in, or connected to, the cardholder data environment. Network components, include, but are not limited to, firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access points, network appliances, and other security appliances. Servers include, but are not limited to, web, database, authentication, DNS, mail, proxy, and NTP. Applications include all purchased and custom applications, including internal and external (web) applications.

How Do We Secure Information Transmissions?

Email that you may send to us may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures will be in place prior to your transmitting the information. We do perform internal and external security assessments. For this reason, we ask that you do not send confidential information such as Social Security or account numbers to us through an unsecured e-mail.

Surveys & Contests

From time-to-time our website requests information from users via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address) and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.
